Job Description
The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute is a world leader in genomic research, with an expanding scientific programme dedicated to understanding gene function in health & disease.
We are looking for someone to fill a new role, working in the Media and Public Relations team [http://www.sanger.ac.uk/about/press/] to ensure that our internet and print content is of high quality, relevant, current and delivered on time.
Working closely with senior researchers, Institute managers, the web and public engagement teams, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in maintaining the currency of our website and developing new content and leading production of our Annual Report [http://www.sanger.ac.uk/about/how/corporatepublications.html].
To serve researchers and other audiences better, the Institute is investing in its internet, intranet and print publications. The person filling this new role will play a vital part in external relations, ensuring that our published materials are of high quality, engaging and produced to a tightly defined schedule. The person will also play an important part in engaging with staff, in large part through redevelopment of our intranet.
The person will also assist with development of new content for our website and work with freelance contributors, including writers, photographers and video producers.
Essential Skills
The successful candidate will be a skilled science communicator with experience of delivering projects on time and to defined standards. The person will have experience of developing a website or managing website content. Success in this role requires that the person have a science degree or equivalent experience in a science environment.
Alongside good general verbal and written communication skills, the person will have strong skills in influencing and persuasion, which will be essential to success in this role. The main tasks require the drive to complete tasks allied to attention to detail.
Ideal Skills
Experience in managing or editing a quality publication would be an advantage.
