Job Description:
To work with the Product Manager, Chief Architect and other Developers and QA engineers to guide and oversee the implementation of interfaces on the software suite to permit integration via SNMP with network management tools.
That includes:
* the selection of an environment that supports the implementation of an SNMP agent and provides all required tools such as MIB compiler etc.
* guiding the specification of the MIBs, their tables and table keys. Provide reference implementations within the products as guidance for the development team.
* evaluate possible interaction issues between the SNMP world and the current management access system (configuration, logging, status reporting, debugging, .). Provide example solutions as guidance for the development team.
* come up with a strategy to integrate the SNMP agents for the applications with platform (Linux) provided Agent.
This will be a design, oversight, guidance and implementation role and you will be seen as the key owner of this aspect of the system.
Whilst other developers as well as you may implement the interfaces you specify on to software components you will be required to provide clear direction to these other engineers; to work with the QA team to ensure that test scripts and harnesses are of suitable quality to assure the quality of the delivered product; to liaises with other product groups to ensure the interfaces are sufficient to integrate other products with and to act as the lead subject matter expert for other development team members in this important subject area.
Skills and Experience:
A thorough, practical understanding of SNMP, including the production of MIBs, assignment of OIDs and interfacing with industry standard management tools such as SAM, Nagios or HP Openview.
Excellent C and C++ coding skills and experience of building production quality software on Linux/Unix type operating systems is essential.
It is also highly desirable that the candidate has some experience of producing software destined for the Telco/ISP market.
