Job Description
Our client, based in Cambridge is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with Some post-graduate experience of challenging engineering projects from concept to delivery (either relevant post-graduate degree or commercial development) and an excellent first degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
The main purpose of the Mechanical Engineer is to apply theoretical and practical mechanical engineering skills, working within multi -disciplinary teams to develop innovative effective mechanical design solutions in a wide range of challenging applications.
Specific Responsibilities
This is great opportunity for an engineer with the ambition and ability to achieve excellent results in demanding industries, and to find novel and radical solutions to new and existing problems under tough commercial and time restraints.
You will be using your strong technical skills to make a significant contribution to development projects, from initial concepts through to transfer to manufacture. This will include:* Concept generation
* Analysis and development of system architectures
* Detailed design of mechanical and fluidic components and systems
* Working closely with clients, other engineers and technicians to implement detailed design solutions
* Specifying, designing and executing experimental programmes with teams of engineers, scientists and technicians
* Developing and building proof-of-concept prototypes
* Delivering technical reports and producing high quality design documentation
Minimum Requirements
To meet the demanding requirements of this role you must have:
* An excellent first degree in mechanical engineering or a related discipline
* Strong understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, with key strengths in mechanisms design, thermal management and fluidics.
* Some post-graduate experience of challenging engineering projects from concept to delivery (either relevant post-graduate degree or commercial development)
* Hands-on experience of 3D CAD (preferably Pro Engineer Wildfire and Solidworks)
* Knowledge and passion for mechanical engineering and engineering in general
* A creative approach to problem solving and concept generation
* An appreciation of the use of engineering analysis in product development
In addition, one or more of the following would be beneficial:
* Second degree with high level of practical experience
* Experience in mechanical design for optical systems
* Experience in numerical analysis using FEA and/or CFD
* Experience in fluid dynamics and fluidics system design
