Job Description

Our client, based in Cambridge is seeking an Analytical Mechanical Engineer with significant industrial experience in systems engineering and product development. Candidates must have an excellent first degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced engineer with the ambition and ability to achieve excellent results in a highly demanding industry and to find novel and radical solutions to new and existing problems under tough commercial, regulatory and time constraints.

Main Purpose of the Job

The position will require you to apply your analytical and systems engineering skills to the development of products for clients around the globe.

You will take a leading role in the analysis, design and delivery of multi-disciplinary projects to develop solutions in a wide range of applications.

Specific Responsibilities

The position involves taking lead system engineering roles within development projects with exposure to all aspects of development from project planning to final product delivery.

You will be involved in organising and progressing the analytical and mechanical engineering, fluidic and thermodynamic problems.

Significant project management tasks may also be a key part of the role.

You will use your strong creative skills and technical expertise to develop relationships with current and future clients by understanding their needs, generating concepts, writing proposals to define work programmes, taking a lead role in technical workshops and presenting data.

You will provide a technical point of contact within the company for clients.

You will manage tasks within projects requiring delivery within tight timescales and budgets, managing both internal and external resources.

Your specific responsibilities will include:

* Working with clients to identify technical opportunities, needs and expectations

* Definition of technical solutions for product or system developments

* Leading groups of engineers to realise your technical solutions

* Developing innovative and novel solutions to complex mechanical, fluidic and thermodynamic problems

* Undertake or lead numerical analyses of concepts and solutions

* Delivering technical reports and producing high quality design documentation

Minimum requirements

An excellent first degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.

An appreciation if the use of engineering analysis tools in product development with hands-on experience of 3D CAD (preferably Pro / Engineer Wildfire and Solidworks).

A detailed knowledge of rapid prototyping methods and numerical analysis using FEA and CFD.

Significant industrial experience in systems engineering and product development, with a proven ability to manage a team of engineers and technicians. There should be evidence of significant technical challenge and excellence within the work you have been responsible for.

You will have a creative approach to problem solving and concept generation.

A second degree with a high level of practical experience would be beneficial as well as an in depth knowledge of fluid dynamics and thermal management.

Direct experience of product development for the oil and gas industry would be advantageous.
