Job Description

Our client, based in Cambridge, is seeking an Embedded Digital Systems Engineer with relevant experience in embedded software implementation in C, design or electronics.

Candidates must have an excellent first degree or PhD in electrical or information engineering, computer science, physics or related discipline.

Main Purpose of the Job

An engineer is required to work on client assignments and provide key ideas for projects involving a wide variety of consumer, medical and industrial products, from concept definition through to detailed design. The work is often unpredictable, and projects frequently use cutting-edge technologies, so you must have a broad skill set. You will be working with digital systems, developing embedded software and designing electronics. You will be able to contribute to a range of exciting projects in other ways that interest you such as leading design teams, creating PCBs and doing systems engineering.

Specific Responsibilities

You will work as part of the technical team on client assignments in multi-disciplinary project teams, sometimes on more than one project concurrently and in different roles, both technical and management. It is essential that you have a strong desire to learn how to develop and implement solutions based on different technologies and for different target markets. The customer base covers a diverse range of sectors including commercial, consumer, medical and industrial.

High quality work is essential from every team member.

You will work on the design of technical systems for a wide range of products including, smart meters and appliances, low power wireless communications, medical devices, microprocessors, automotive sensors and radar. This will include many opportunities to develop technical design skills for implementing analogue and digital hardware, information engineering, embedded software and whole product design.

As a project team member you will be responsible for carrying out your specific project tasks within the time-scales and budgets agreed with your project managers. There are many aspects to the work in addition to design. As your experience develops, you may wish to take on further responsibilities.

Minimum requirements

To meet the requirements of this role you will have:

* An excellent first degree or PhD in electrical or information engineering, computer science, physics or related discipline.

* Relevant experience in at least one of the following areas, and an interest in the others

o Embedded software implementation in C

o Digital design

o Electronics

* Strong mathematical skills

* An imaginative and inquisitive mind, be eager to learn new skills and to develop solutions for interesting and complex problems.

* Good communication skills, especially in writing technical documentation and specifications

In addition, any experience of the following will also be beneficial:

* Embedded Linux or Windows

* A strong grasp of physical concepts, and how physics applies in real world situations

* Experience of digital ASIC or FPGA design and implementation using VHDL or Verilog

* Board-level circuit design

* Analogue and /or digital electronics

* Information theory

* Writing programs on python, C or C++

* Signal processing or algorithm design

* Matlab programming

Graduates with industrial experience or recent graduates with relevant academic course or research experience are welcomed.
