Job Description

Our client, based in Cambridge is seeking an Embedded Software Test Lead with experience of testing complex embedded systems and in planning the test process for the full software life cycle.

Candidates must have a good degree in a relevant subject such as engineering or computer science

The main purpose of the role of Embedded Software Test Lead is to work on wireless projects. You will derive the test strategy and write test plans for complex electronics systems running embedded software. In most cases this will involve working with Project Managers and one or more software or hardware engineers as part of a multi-disciplinary project team. You will also participate in meetings with clients and potential clients from time to time. Software is defined as software working at the electronics / software boundary and / or in a constrained environment (e.g. tight memory, low power).

Type of Work Undertaken by the Division

The Wireless Software Group develops software for wireless applications.

The group carries out software design and architecture, as well as coding, usually in C. Other languages occasionally used are Assembly and Java.

Team sizes tend to be small and are made up of highly skilled engineers. High quality work is therefore essential from every team member.

Specific Responsibilities

In this role you will be responsible for:

* The test strategy, test plan creation and test generation of whole systems on more than one project at once.

* Hands-on testing of the systems being developed

* Work closely with development engineers to design bespoke test harnesses

* Ensuring compliance with the client's requirements

* Carrying out your specific project tasks within the timescales and budgets agreed with the project manager

* Developing approaches for best practice for test within the Wireless Division

* Mentoring of less experienced test engineers within the team.

Minimum Requirements

* A good degree in a relevant subject, such as engineering or computer science.

* Relevant experience of testing complex embedded systems

* Experience in planning the test process for the full software life cycle

* Understanding of both hardware and software

* Understanding of wireless communication systems

* Understanding of build systems and source control

* Experience of bug tracking systems

* Team management experience

* Minimum ISEB foundation level

* Excellent attention to detail and time management

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Experience of the following would be advantageous

* One or more scripting languages

* Team leadership skills
