Job Description
Our client, based in Royston, Hertfordshire is seeking a Telecommunications Technology Consultant with experience and understanding of a broad range of technologies and 5 years experience in a technical role, ideally including consulting. Candidates must have a good degree (minimum 2:1) preferably in a related discipline e.g. communications systems engineering, physics or computing.
Purpose of role:
As part of the Communications Networks group operating assignments in fixed and mobile communications network strategy, design, audit, business modelling, procurement and operations.
Dimensions of the role:
* Operating assignments with network operators, equipment suppliers and regulators within the telecommunications industry. Assignments are likely to be short-medium term.
* Advising and supporting clients on mobile technologies such as GPRS, 3G, HSPA, LTE, Wi-Fi and short range wireless protocols.
* Advising and supporting clients in fixed technologies including Next-Generation Networks, IP/MPLS networks, Fibre to the Home and IPTV.
* Ability to manage and run projects.
* Identifying and following up on sales opportunities.
Key responsibilities
* The successful candidate will work across a number of the client's practices through the Communications, Media and Entertainment (CME) team. They will need to fit in as a member of a small but powerful team. This role will report to the Head of the Communications Networks Group in the company's Communications & Electronics Systems Practice.

* Rapidly adding value to client thinking.
* Helping to build business in communications networks and systems.
* Keeping abreast of new and emerging technologies and network design trends, such as increasing use of fibre and IP, greater resilience and security.
* Holding a vision of future possibilities for networks and services.
* Working closely in company initiatives whilst also keeping close links to C&ES.
Position Requirements
Qualifications
* Good degree (minimum 2:1) preferably in a related discipline e.g. communications systems engineering, physics or computing.
* Possibly with a track record of publication in this area.
* Technical background, with 5 years experience, ideally including consulting.
Skills / Personal Qualities
* Experience and understanding of a broad range of technologies including:
- Radio Access, transmission, Core network and Services network in mobile
- 2G, 3G 4G technologies such as HSPA, LTE
- Other wireless technologies (wireless LAN, short range comms etc.)
- Fixed telecom technologies such as IP/MPLS, FTTH, IPTV
* Project management and project delivery experience would be an advantage.
* Team leadership skills would be an advantage.
* Flexible and adaptable to deliver results under time and client pressure.
* Strong team-worker - effective relationship builder.
* Strong ability in influencing and possibly sales.
* Self motivated and target driven.
