Job Description
Our client, based in Cambridge is looking for a Senior Product Engineer with at least 7 years' experience in a manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will have experience in Quality Management, ideally 6 Sigma, ISO9001-2008 and Tick-It as well as a BSc or higher degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline.
The client has recently developed a product which is at early stage prototype. In order to deliver the product to market in volume, they've teamed up with a partner who they'll work with for the lifetime of the commercial opportunity. They are forming a dedicated team to run this initiative as a focussed and ongoing product business from within the wider company. The team will work with the Partner, manufacturers and customers.
The main responsibilities of the Senior Product Engineer are:
1. To manage the product design and development activity, including:
* Planning and managing the product from concept to volume manufacture
* Identify resources required to deliver plan
* Management of external consultants/subcontractors involved in the development of product
* Developing the product strategy for future developments
2. To work with the Business Manager to prepare product strategy and new product specifications to meet customer requirements.
3. To be responsible for the standards and practices used by the ongoing product development process, fully integrating the total product and process quality mindset into the business whilst managing and driving towards continuous improvement.
4. To manage the Product operations activity, including:
* Returns
* Customer complaints
* Product failure diagnosis
* Product quality improvements and tracking
Knowledge and experience required
* BSc or higher degree in an appropriate Engineering discipline
* At least 7 years experience in a company that manufactures medium to high volume price sensitive product in a high reliability, harsh environment, including:
o Implementation of product development with an off-shore manufacturer; knowledge of lean manufacturing would be an advantage
o Quality management, ideally 6 Sigma, ISO9001-2008 and Tick-It
o Oversight of product development and internal/external type testing including field trials
o Management of a product through regulatory approvals
Desirable
* Working with products that include a high percentage of manual assembly
* Managing product evolution driven by customer complaints, or field issues
* Process flow design experience
