Job Description

Our client, based in Royston, Hertfordshire is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support product design throughout the product lifecycle. Candidates will have a good degree in mechanical engineering and demonstrable experience of successfully developing and commercialising complex systems/scientific instruments for low to medium volume manufacturing.

The role Of the Mechanical Engineer is:

To be responsible for improving and maintaining the design of our client's advanced microscale bioreactor system, containing complex mechanical systems, electronics and software.

To work closely with a small team of designers to ensure that product designs continue to meet the required quality, performance and cost targets.

To work closely with key stakeholders including, software, business development and technology to ensure that product enhancements and platform developments meet the essential requirements for commercial success.

To contribute towards the manufacturing engineering and cost reduction of existing and emerging products.

Key Job Accountabilities

* To be responsible for taking new product developments and upgrades from beta units through to production.

* To work with the build team, designers and suppliers to identify, implement and record engineering design changes.

* To support a process of continuous improvement to help ensure that programme targets are met.

* To arrange, participate in, or facilitate design reviews with peers and others

* To ensure an effective hand over of products to the production group to ensure a successful production release.

* To maintain designs through the product lifecycle

* To follow development and engineering processes.

Education/Qualifications/Special Training

* Good degree in Mechanical Engineering

Experience

Candidates are likely to have a good degree in mechanical engineering coupled with demonstrable experience of successfully developing and commercialising complex systems/scientific instruments for low to medium volume manufacturing (up to 100 units a year)

Core competencies should be:

* Experience of transferring complex systems containing hardware, electronics, software (ideally for lifescience/biological/laboratory based applications) from engineering (beta systems) into a manufacturing environment

* Knowledge of manufacturing techniques, design for manufacture, design for assembly and cost reduction

* Technical direction of small teams of technical personnel

* Supporting product designs throughout the product lifecycle
