Job Description
Our client, based in Cambridge is seeking an engineer or physicist with an excellent first degree or PhD in engineering or physics.
Due to the nature of the work, it will be necessary to obtain security clearance for the successful applicant; therefore the applicant must hold UK nationality.
Main Purpose of the job
Our client is looking for a graduate engineer or physicist to work on client assignments and provide key ideas for projects involving the design, implementation and test of a wide range of sensing systems, often encompassing high performance analogue circuits, magnetic sensors, optical sensors and algorithms.
Specific responsibilities
Technical staff work on client assignments in multi-disciplinary project teams, sometimes on more than one project concurrently and in different team roles. A strong desire to learn to develop and implement solutions based on different technologies and for different target markets is essential.
High quality work is essential from every team member.
You will work on the design of technical systems for a wide range of applications including; radar, signal processing, imaging, detection and sensing systems. This will include many opportunities to develop technical design skills for implementing a range of sensors, analogue and digital hardware, optics, embedded software and whole product design.
As a project team member you will be responsible for carrying out your specific project tasks within the timescales and budgets agreed with your project managers. There are many aspects to the work in addition to design. As your experience develops, you may wish to take on further responsibilities.
Minimum requirements
To meet the requirements of this role you will have:
* An excellent first degree or PhD in engineering, physics or related discipline
* Strong mathematical skills
* Imaginative and inquisitive mind, eager to learn new skills and to develop solutions for interesting and complex problems
* Good software engineering skills
* Excellent communication skills
In addition, any experience of the following will also be beneficial:
* Solid foundation in analogue electronics design
* Optical system design
* Knowledge of radio frequency principles and design
* Experience of using C, MATLAB or other computer languages
* Experience in signal processing
