Job Description
Our client, based near Huntingdon, is seeking a Technical Assistant to support the development of optical outcoupling in polymer organic electronic light emitting devices (P-OLEDs). Candidates must have experience of device fabrication, and preferably be educated to degree level in Physics, Materials Science or a related subject.
1. KEY RESULT AREAS
* Fabricate and characterise OLEDs using appropriate techniques
* Characterise the properties of materials and devices
* Work with engineers and scientists in the team to devise and carry out experiments to develop high performance top emitting device technology
* Continuous communication with all members of the team to discuss technical issues, progress and plans
* Actively participate in activities to expand the company's Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio.
* Maintain a culture of health and safety within the laboratory
2. MAIN ACTIVITIES
* Fabricate devices in the company's Cleanroom facilities following standard procedures where appropriate, following good Cleanroom working practice.
* Characterise these devices using the relevant equipment and work with Scientists to develop novel measurement techniques and systems to improve understanding and throughput.
* Analyse results and make conclusions, writing reports when necessary.
* Keep careful records of all laboratory work to ensure control and traceability.
* Identify new approaches and architectures for novel organic electronic devices that will expand the company's IP portfolio and potentially contribute to future revenues.
* Attend regular group meetings and be prepared to discuss results and contribute fully to discussions.
* Liaise with other technical teams within the company to maintain awareness of developments and contribute as appropriate.
* Develop and maintain equipment for characterisation of the properties of OEDs.
* Maintain an awareness of the requirements for commercialisation of new technologies, including the complexity of processing and issues involved in production.
* Communicate effectively across the scientific disciplines within the company to promote internal discussion and move the technology forward.
* Generate and keep records of new Intellectual Property.
* Prepare and deliver presentations when required.
3. KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
* Work closely with other members of the Optical Outcoupling team..
* Work closely with other project teams at the Technology Development Centre
* Maintain a close working relationship with the Research and Development Support (RADS) team.
4. KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED
* Preferably a degree in Physics, Materials Science or related subject.
* Experience of device fabrication, thin film characterisation in the fields of polymer or molecular electronics would be advantageous.
* Enthusiastic, inventive and an aptitude for experimental work is essential
* Good problem-solving skills
* An ability to maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive data.
* An understanding of the particular demands of target-driven Industrial research, and ability and willingness to work towards critical deadlines.
* Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively at all levels and the ability to report back results accurately and in a timely manner. The role will include making presentations to internal and external groups
* Good team playing skills and the ability to operate in multi-disciplinary/cross functional teams.
* The candidate should be able to demonstrate an adaptable and flexible approach to work in a dynamic and changing environment
* Good organisation skills
* Ability to show attention to detail and to keep accurate and traceable records
* Understanding of the value of IP and the ability to manage IP appropriately, including working with others to file invention disclosures in a timely fashion.
