Job Description

Our client, based in Cambridge is seeking a Hardware Design Engineer with the ability to design, implement and test battery powered wireless systems to a high level. Candidates will have a degree, or equivalent in a relevant subject i.e. Electronics, Science, Engineering.

Job Purpose

The Hardware Design Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of design for high volume manufacturing in the Audio and Consumer sector using Bluetooth, GPS, FM, Wi-Fi and audio devices. They will assist key customers in their product development and hardware designs.

Key Responsibilities

* PCB circuit design, including layout using Altium Designer

* Support customers with design reviews and documentation

* Drive technical queries from customers/field to successful closure

* Initial bring up and benchmarking of board designs

* Support winning new business through the creation of development vehicles, prototypes and example designs

* Writing and debugging scripts for automated hardware tests

* Ability to use digital and RF lab equipment such as Oscilloscopes, Spectrum Analysers etc.

* Design, review, debug, analysis and optimisation of RF hardware

* Recognising new business opportunities for company products and building on establishes relationships with customers

* Aiding in the development of collateral (e.g. application notes, reference designs, white papers, design guides)

* Working closely with in house R&D, utilising systems and PCB level design skills to assist in the requirements and specifications of wireless systems.

Person Specification - Required

* A degree in a relevant subject (Electronic/Science/Engineering or equivalent)

* Excellent ability to design, implement and test battery powered wireless systems to a high level

* Design and layout of hardware for high volume manufacturing

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills

* Excellent hardware debugging skills. Ability to debug customer and in-house designs

* Ability to succeed in a dynamic but high pressure work environment

* Soldering and fine mechanical assembly skills

Person Specification - Desired

* Experience writing Matlab scripts

* Knowledge of Bluetooth and/or 802.11a/b/g systems

* Knowledge of common digital interface standards (SPI, USB etc.)

* Some software experience useful (C, C++ etc)
