Job Description

Our client, based in Cambridge is looking for a Senior Software Engineer with experience of designing network protocols and experience of hardware device driver development and test.

Candidates must be have a 2:1 degree in computer science or related discipline.

Candidates must be able to travel, sometimes, overseas and live within commuting distance of Cambridge.

The role of the Senior Software Engineer is to work on the development of low level software and device drivers for a real-time embedded operating system.

Key Responsibilities and tasks

* Development of low-level software and device drivers for a real-time embedded operating.

* Supporting the development of functional test software.

* Ensure that all records, specifications and procedural instructions are properly drafted and maintained in order to provide information to management and any other interested party as and when required.

Education and Qualification

Essential:

* 2:1 degree in computer science or related discipline

Experience

Essential

* Experience of designing and/or implementing network protocols

* Experience of hardware device driver development and test

* Good understanding of digital hardware appreciation

* Demonstrable experience of software development using C

* Experience of developing embedded/test software in a UNIX environment

Desirable

* Experience with ATM networking

* Knowledge of E1 (G.703, G704) and IMA

Personal Aptitudes

Essential

* Able to work under pressure and to tight timescales

* Mature, self motivated and organised.

* Able to work on own initiative but aware of when to seek advice.

The jobholder must, on occasion, be willing to work long hours if the needs of the company require it. He/she must be able to travel, including overseas if necessary and live within commuting distance of Cambridge.
